PLEASE HELP; Part 1

Iris made a large model of a butterfly. The actual butterfly has a body length of 3 inches and and wing span of 8 inches. The wing span in the model is 32 inches.

Which proportion shows how long the butterfly body should be for the model?

A.8/3=x/32

B.3/32=8/x

C.4/x=32/3

D.3/8=x/32

Part 2

Based on the information from Part 1, determine whether each statement is True or False.

1.The length of the butterfly body in the model should be 15 inches. TRUE OR FALSE

2.Iris can make the model out of a piece of cardboard measuring 13 x 36. TRUE OR FALSE

3.If the wingspan on the model was 22 inches, Iris could make the body 8 inches. TRUE OR FALSE

4.If Iris made the body first and it was 18 inches long, the wingspan would need to be 60 inches.

Answer :

The actual butterfly and the model are similar.

The ratio of corresponding parts of similar figures is the same.

The ratio of the fly's wingspan to that of the model is 8 to 32 or 8/32.

The ratio of the fly's body to that of the model is 3 is to x where x is the length of the fly model's body.

3/x = 8/32

That proportion does not appear in the options but a proportion that is equivalent to it does.

3/x = 8/32 cross multiplies to 3*32 = 8*x

Looking at option D which is 3/8 = x/32, notice that it cross multiplies to 8*x = 3*32 .

Therefor, option D is the same as the proportion and is the answer to the question.
