Convection currents occur in the Earth's mantle - the semi-solid, molten material between the crust and the core. The heat generated from the core and through radioactive decay makes the mantle material less dense thus causing it to rise. As it nears the crust, the material cools and sinks thereby creating a convection current.
The Earths convection currents occur in the Geosphere and on the Plate Tectonics.
