Romanticism hoped to find truth A. in nature and emotion. A quick look at Romantic art and literature highlights this point. Take, for instance, Caspar David Friedrich's Wanderer above the Sea of Fog (1818). The painting depicts a lone man standing on a rock in the midst of nature, looking off into the distance in a very contemplative mood. Mary Shelley's book Frankenstein also employs a great deal of Romantic motifs such as entire sections describing Dr. Frankenstein wandering through the mountains where Shelley illustrates (in great detail) the aspects of nature around him.
