They assisted doctors and they also wrote letters from the men to be sent. The women of the confederacy were paid salaries and got the acknowledgment of the army and the soldiers. Many of them also included their servants to help them accomplish their duties and they left a legacy f memoirs. They were only allowed to do these tasks, unfortunately. Nevertheless, they contributed as men did in the civil war.
