Ther era of good times was a period in the United States, where there was a sense of belonging and unity after the Napoleonic Wars. He was key to forming the Missouri Compromise of 1820, which regulated slavery in the western territories and the Compromise of 1850, which was intended to clear up issues about the status of territories regarding slavery and freed slaves after the Mexican-American war. He worked especially hard on benefiting the western states.
