The US was tempted to help France fight the Communists in Vietnam in the 19650s. But as you already know, the Americans did fight a war in Vietnam, during the 60s, which to this day remains one of the most horrific events in the history of our world. Many people lost their lives there, both American and Vietnamese, only because the Americans wanted to spread their politics of freedom outside its own borders.
