Robert Owen (1771-1858) is remembered as a British social reformer who sought to share his ideals of communities working together co-operatively for the common good, where there was no private property and existed a more even distribution of income, meaning that all should have equal wages.

Likewise, Owen believed that men were shaped by his environment, especially when they were young. Consequently, he consistently aimed to improve the working conditions and life of the employees of his factory, New Lanark, and the education and surroundings conditions of the employees' extended family; and eventually he sought to create his "utopian communities" to implement his vision, such as the New Harmony community in America founded in 1825.
