A cylindrical can holds 500 mL and has a radius of 4 cm. Calculate the height of the can, to the nearest tenth of a centimetre.

Answer :

The volume of a cylinder is the area of the base * height, which is
[tex] r^{2} \pi [/tex][tex]* h[/tex]

radius is 4, so equation is:
[tex] \pi 4 ^{2} *h[/tex]

We know that the cylinder holds 500 ml, so set the equation equal to 500:
[tex] \pi 4 ^{2} *h=500[/tex]

Solve for h to find the answer to be around 9.9 cm.
