The Cold War impacted many nations apart from Europe. For example, following WW2 the Korean peninsula was impacted when the Soviets supported Kim il-Sung as he established a communist regime and waged war against the southern half of the peninsula. Following UN intervention and the Korean War, a communist North Korea and a democratic South Korea took place. In the Caribbean, Fidel Castro's Cuba sought strong ties with the Soviet Union resulting in the influx of nuclear weapons to the island country just 90 miles south of Florida. This resulted in the Cuban Missile Crisis.
