The writing of the muckrakers in the Progressive movement was very important during this time. The muckrakers was usually a name given to investigative journalism. They usually reported on social ills, such as chronic urban poverty, unsafe working conditions and social issues, such as child labor. The muckrakers helped to boycott certain things which had been proved "dirty."
