Citing Quoted Sources
When you quote a source's exact words, you must cite the source. The most
common format for citing sources in
literature and language settings comes
from
the Modern Language Association
of America (MLA). It is called the MLA format
or style. In this style, in-text
citations give basic information about the source
of
a quote in the same sentence as
the quote. The citations correspond to an entry
on the Works Cited page, which
will include more complete information about
the source.
1. Review the MLA format for in-text citations. Write any examples that help you
remember the rules in your Reader
/Writer Notebook.
2. In each of the following sentences, highlight the components of the in-
text citation.
And the results show that "careers for content strategists are in high demand
in the 21st century" ("21st Century
Careers").
As Braeden Wong notes, "engineers are being recruited right and left for the
tech industry" (8).
"Teaching is a profession that will never become obsolete" (Whorf 22).
3. Find one quote you would like to use in your presentation. Write a sentence
that incorporates the quote
and includes the proper in-text citation.
