Despite gaining support over the years, the ERA faced significant opposition and failed to be ratified by the necessary number of states by its original deadline in 1979. However, efforts to pass the ERA continued, and in 2014, the state of Nevada became the 36th state to ratify the amendment, bringing renewed hope for its eventual adoption.
