It's completely absurd to suggest that the government should be permitted to restrict misinformation on social media. Just stop and think about the consequences of such a view. Any reason you can point to for claiming that the government should be allowed to restrict misinformation on social media is also a reason for claiming that the government should be allowed to restrict misinformation on traditional media as well. But, consider what would follow from such a claim: you would have to grant that the government has the right to exercise authoritarian control over the news media—blocking any and all speech that it disagrees with, for any reason, and thereby eliminating the kind of independent press that is essential to democracy.
