A 55 year-old female patient presents to the clinic for an annual exam. The patient is overweight. She has a strong family history of diabetes mellitus type 2. Her mother had the disease and died of MI at age 71. Her sister who is 51 has T2DM and hypertension. The patient’s BP is 154/95. She tells you that she just smoked a cigarette and that may be why her BP is a bit high. The patient wants to know if she does in fact have high blood pressure like her sister. What do we tell her?
