Jack is a 55-year-old male who presents to the clinic with complaints of"coughing for the past 11 years". He states his cough has become morebothersome in the past six months, and he is often short of breath withexertion. He says his cough is productive, and occasionally the mucousis purulent. He has a 35-year history of smoking two packs of cigarettesa day (70 pack/year history). He quit smoking about three years ago. Onphysical examination, his BP is 160/85, HR 96, and O2 saturation is96% on room air. On auscultation of the lungs, adventitious breathsounds are noted in all lobes. His chest x-ray reveals significantbronchial wall thickening. Office Spirometry confirms a diagnosis ofCOPD. He is currently taking no medications and has no known drugallergies. What would I evaluate to determine the efficacy of the treatment plan and ensure the patient is not experiencing medication-related side effects?
