How Math is Used in Fashion Design
Fashion designers need to have a good understanding of basic arithmetic (adding, subtracting,
multiplying and dividing), fractions, geometry and algebra in order to design and
then create
the items.
They also need these skills to be able to determine how much fabric to purchase
, quantities of trim
(such as buttons) for items, and to determine cost and profit of their designs. Being
able to
accurately
measure and compute that information as necessary
is critical for a fashion designer.
