Henry joins a new regiment that hasn't been to battle yet.
Henry runs away from the battle.
Henry and the tattered man watch Jim Conklin die. Henry then leaves the
tattered man to die alone in the field.
While marching, Henry "felt a quiet manhood, non-assertive but of sturdy
and strong blood...He had been to touch the great death, and found that,
after all, it was but the great death. He was a man."
Henry and Wilson lead the regiment to victory. Henry protects his
regiment's flag and the regiment seizes their enemy's position.
Henry is wounded.
There is a rumor that the regiment is going to move. Then Henry "tried to
mathematically prove to himself that he would not run from a battle".
