The National Vital Statistics System, under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, recently released a report stating that there will be 3.59 million births in the United States in 2023, the lowest level since 1979 and a 2% decrease from 2022. The total fertility rate (i.e. the average number of children per woman) in the United States has dropped to around 1.6, a decrease of 2% from the previous year, which is the lowest record since the United States began tracking this data in the 1930s.
