BACKGROUND
three teachers at Mbare High School bought two different kinds of fruits at the market. When they got to School, they could not remember the individual prices per kilogram but fortunately two of the teachers could remember the total amount that they each paid.Taking advantage of knowledge you acquired on simultaneous equations and matrices, you volunteer to calculate the price per kilogram for each fruit
PART A
the weight of the fruits and the total amount paid are shown in the following table (copy and complete)
MRS NDORO has bananas (kg) 1.2 and apple s (kg) 0.8 total paid =$2.40
MRS KORI has bananas (kg)2.2 and apple (kg)2 total paid =$5.20
MISS NDLOVU has bananas (kg) 1.8 and apples (kg) 1.6 total paid =x.
Assuming that for each variety of fruits, the price per kilogram paid be each of the teachers is the same
(a) copy and complete the table
(b)define the variables
(c)form separate equations using the information from each column.
PART B
solve the unknown variables using the matrix method by
(a) pulling out the matrix
(b) finding the determinant of the drawn matrix
(c)using the inverse of the matrix to determine the unknown variables
(d)hence or otherwise calculate the prices of each fruits per kilogram.
