Sergeant Harris left the police station at 6 p.m. He was walking home. He did not have his car, so he crossed the park. While he was walking, he saw a little girl playing near the river - she was running after the birds. The sergeant sat down to have a rest and opened his newspaper. He was reading the sports page when he heard screams; the girl was in the water and was waving her arms. Her mother was calling for help. Sergeant Harris ran to the river and jumped into the water. He got to the girl quickly and pulled her out. A lot of people were watching the scene. When they saw that the girl was safe, they all clapped and cheered.
