#### QUESTION 3: THE VENUE AND MAPWORK

Exemplar Resource Pack 2024

In order to evaluate the suitability of the venue for your Derby Day, you should consider the school grounds or the open ground adjacent to the school. Try to get a clear picture of how this area will be suitable for the event. Think about the following:

1. PA System:
- A public address system (or PA system) is an electronic system comprising microphones, amplifiers, loudspeakers, and related equipment. It increases the volume (loudness) of a human voice, musical instrument, or other sound source, or recorded sound or music.

2. Seating/Standing Space for Spectators:
- Spectators (people who come to watch the horse races) need to sit or stand. Is there a pavilion/spectator stand? Is there enough space for spectators to sit or stand to watch the races?

3. Parking and Security:
- Where will all the cars park? Who will be responsible for the vehicles and the security in the parking area?

4. Water and Toilets:
- Are there facilities that the public can use? How are you going to ensure there are enough toilets and water points?

5. First Aid and Emergency Services:
- What if someone gets hurt?

6. Catering Facilities and Food Stalls:
- People need food and something to drink. Who will be supplying food and soft drinks to all the participants and spectators? How will these people be selected? Is there access to electricity/water for the food stalls? Who will cater for the officials (people who work at the event)?

7. Waste Management:
- How will the venue be kept clean during and after the event? What will happen to the waste?

MAPWORK:

Parents and other guests who will be attending the Derby Day will have to know where to go. Keep the drawing simple and do not forget to label the important places on your map.
