# Project: Choosing a Potential Career
## Part 1: Gather Personal Information
1. Draw four columns with the following headings:
- My strengths
- My abilities
- My interests
- My passions
Complete this table by thinking carefully about yourself.
2. Decide which career type is best suited to you:
- Investigative
- Enterprising
- Realistic
- Artistic
- Social
- Conventional
Draw a table with six columns and write the career types as headings. In each column, list your strengths, abilities, interests, and passions that indicate the best career choice for you. Don't worry if none suit a particular type; hopefully, one or two career types will clearly suit you.
3. Determine your best career type(s):
Draw a column for each career type that might suit you and write down at least 10 different jobs that match each type. Choose three jobs you think you might like to do.
## Part 2: Research Three Potential Careers
1. For each of the three jobs identified in Part 1, find out:
- Where will you learn how to do the job? Must you study? If so, for how long, where, and what do the studies cost?
- Gather information from people currently doing these jobs. You may need to visit their place of business, or you can call and ask questions. Inform them that you are a student doing career research and would like to ask four brief questions:
- What do they like about their job?
- What are the challenges of the job?
- What type of person is best suited to this job?
- Does the job pay enough to cover basic needs?
2. Document your findings:
Write down the information you gather for each of the three jobs and highlight any surprising or particularly valuable information.
## Part 3: Make a Potential Career Decision
1. Use the information from Part 1 and Part 2:
Write a paragraph of at least half a page explaining why you think this is the right career decision for you. Mention what information from the interviews helped you make up your mind.
