1.1 Describe the settlement and the different types of land use
- Name the settlement and give its location (say where it is).
- Describe the different kinds of land use in the settlement.

1.2 Suggest reasons for the location of this settlement.
- Settlements are in a particular place for one or two reasons, e.g., near valuable minerals in the ground, available water, or good land for farming.
- Find out what reasons influenced the location of the settlement you are researching.

1.3 Discuss the decline and/or growth of the population of the settlement and suggest reasons for it.
- Find out if the population in the settlement is increasing or declining.
- Clues: There may be many empty buildings or unused land if the population is declining. A settlement with an increasing population often has new buildings or even overcrowded areas.
- Suggest reasons why the population may be increasing or declining.

1.4 Identify and discuss one social or environmental issue.
- In most settlements, there are issues or challenges. A social issue refers to things about people's lives, e.g., unemployment, schools, and transport. Environmental issues are about the environment, e.g., soil erosion and pollution.
- Write a paragraph about one of these issues. Explain its causes and how it affects people in the settlement.
