Some people may consider working in the hospitality and tourism industry exciting and glamorous, while others may view it as hard labor with poor wages. Which view do you take? This activity will help you understand the food service industry from an insider's perspective. You'll also learn about some prominent leaders in the hospitality and tourism industry who had humble beginnings but achieved success because of their clear vision and hard work. Additionally, you'll visit your state tourism website and identify economic factors that closely affect your state's economy.

Task 1: Interviewing a Food Service Employee

Visit a dining establishment (it could be your school cafeteria) and request a brief interview (about 10-15 minutes) with one of the employees. Ask questions related to the employee's job and the food service industry, and take notes of the responses. You may audio record the employee's responses, but only after obtaining the employee's permission. Write down the questions you asked and the employee's responses.
