You use the steps to break down the prompt which is what you're going to write about. Then think about what you're going to write about, what's going to be in your essay. Then break down the parts of the essay and what you're going to write about, basically just think about what's going to be in each paragraph. Then write a thesis statement for each paragraph. The thesis statement is a sentence about what the paragraph is going to be about. Finally write everything down.
