Basaltic volcanoes that are higher than 1 kilometer are
called seamounts. Seamounts are mountains rising from the ocean floor. They do
not reach the water’s surface or sea level, and they are not islands as well. They
are usually found from the sea floor rising for about 1,000-4000 meters or
3,300-13,100 ft. in height. Seamounts rise to at least 1000 meters from the
seafloor. Most of them are believed to be made during volcanic processes,
typically from extinct volcanoes.
